Is Purity Coffee free of mold/mycotoxins?Updated 2 months ago
Yes! Every single lot of our green coffee is tested for mold, mycotoxins, and other contaminants before it ever leaves its country of origin.
If a lot were ever to test positive, we would simply not purchase it. That coffee would never leave the port of origin.
Once a shipment is approved, we continue monitoring it closely and, when needed, test again upon arrival in the U.S. In total, this process happens several times each year to ensure the integrity of our supply.
Once the coffee reaches us, it’s stored under conditions that make mold growth impossible. Because we start with green coffee that is confirmed mold- and mycotoxin-free, and because roasting is a kill step that eliminates any potential microorganisms, there’s no way for mycotoxins to form in the roasted coffee.
A few important facts:
- Mycotoxins are the byproducts of mold.
- Roasted coffee contains no moisture, which is required for mold to grow.
- Coffee naturally contains antimicrobial compounds.
- Purity Coffee follows FDA Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and maintains a robust food safety system.
Even with all of those protections in place, we still choose to third-party test the final roasted product for mold and mycotoxins (alongside other quality markers) annually.
As far as we know, no other coffee company goes to the lengths we do to ensure every decision, from sourcing and roasting to packaging and shipping, is made with one goal in mind: the health of the coffee, and the health of the people who drink it.
