When was my coffee roasted?
Every bag of Purity Coffee has a "Best By" date printed on it. This date is 12 months from the roast date, so you can use it to determine when your coffee was roasted.
For example, a Best By date of 10/5/27 means the coffee was roasted 10/5/27.
The amount of time between roasting and shipping can vary. We roast based on anticipated demand so that coffee is available and ready to ship when you place your order. Some coffees move through our inventory very quickly, while others may have a little more time between roasting and shipping.
Is coffee best immediately after roasting?
Not necessarily!
Freshly roasted coffee naturally releases carbon dioxide in a process known as degassing. In fact, coffee generally benefits from some rest after roasting before brewing. Brewing extremely fresh coffee while it's still releasing a significant amount of CO₂ can make even extraction more difficult and affect the flavor in your cup.
So while roast date is certainly part of coffee freshness, it's not quite as simple as "the newer, the better."
How do you keep the coffee fresh?
How coffee is packaged and stored after roasting makes a big difference.
We nitrogen-flush our coffee before sealing the bag, displacing oxygen that can contribute to staling. Our bags also have a one-way CO₂ valve, which allows gases naturally released by the freshly roasted beans to escape without allowing oxygen and outside elements into the sealed bag.
This helps protect the coffee while it's making its way from our roaster to you. Unopened and properly stored, Purity Coffee is designed to maintain its quality throughout its stated shelf life.
What if I want the most recent roast date available?
We understand that some coffee lovers have a strong preference for a particular roast date, and we're happy to help!
If you'd like to know the roast dates currently available for a particular coffee, reach out to our Customer Support team before placing your order. We can check our current inventory and help arrange for your preferred available roast date whenever possible.
Once your coffee arrives, we recommend keeping the bag sealed until you're ready to use it and storing your coffee away from heat, light, moisture, and oxygen for the best experience.
